The present bilingual anthology addresses two pressing needs: through their study of the original texts either in manuscript or in first editions, the authors endeavor to restore the purity of Darío´s text free from typographical errors and fithful to the poet´s intent, and to reproduce in English a sense of the original poetry in all its elegance, urgency, rhythm, thematic ecclecticism, and suggestiveness.  Many of the texts, including the artistic credos that Darío composed for his most important works, have not been previously available in English.  Scholars will surely appreciate the textual fidelity of the Spanish originals, while the serious and skillful rendering of the poems in English will appeal to students and the general public alike.”
